Vietnam: Conference on Public-Private Co-Operation in IP Rights Infringement

Infringement of intellectual property rights are increasing, and efforts need to be made to rectify this. As a response to this increase, the “Improvement of public-private co-operation efficiency in anti-counterfeiting and –IPR infringement” conference was held on Friday 30 March 2018, in Ho Chi Minh City.

In Vietnam, IP infringements are increasing, and infringers are more and more resourceful. Active cooperation is welcomed between the private sector and the administration. According to the anti-counterfeit center, the unsolved violation cases significantly outnumber those that are resolved.
Enforcing IP rights is not as effective as it should be in Vietnam. The main reason is the outdated equipment and facilities. The system is archaic, and it needs to be updated in many ways. In order to improve the fight against counterfeit, a closer cooperation between agencies is needed, but also between agencies and enterprises.

On the one hand, the administration and agencies must make improvements, especially in human resources and infrastructures. On the other hand, it is necessary for enterprises to be fully aware of the counterfeit problem. Thus, enterprises should work closely with IP authorities. Additionally, they need to improve the product making process to prevent counterfeiting.
