Copyright registration in Kazakhstan

Copyright registration is not mandatory in Kazakhstan, since copyrights arise upon the creation of a work, regardless of its purpose, content and dignity, as well as the method and form of expression. At the same time, the legislation of Kazakhstan provides for the registration of copyright.
Registration is made only on the grounds of online submitted application, through the website of the RSE “National Institute of Intellectual Property” of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, within one business day following the day of receipt of the author’s application. The following documents must be attached to the application:
- A copy of the work. As well as a copy of the work, sketches, drawings, drawings or photographs may be attached to the application, and in relation to computer programs or databases, an abstract including the name of the program or database, last name, first name, middle name (if it is indicated in the identification document) of the author , date of creation, scope, purpose, functionality, source code (source text), main technical characteristics, programming language, type of computer.
- Document on payment of public services.
Within one working day, the authorized body sends the author an electronic Certificate of Registration or sends a notice on refusal in registration.
