S&O Activities: S&O Attends Customs Training in Cambodia

On 27th June 2018, a workshop was organized by the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, in order to train the customs officers regarding Intellectual Property Rights in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. More than 40 Cambodian officers from various departments, branches and border checkpoints have joined this interesting training.

As one of the fastest growing developing economies in the recent years, Cambodia becomes more popular for tourists in South East Asia which results in a large number of counterfeits of many brands being displayed in Cambodian markets. The diverse range of counterfeit goods, with low prices is the main reason for the attraction of local customers and foreign travelers. Since the two biggest cities in Cambodia – Phnom Penh and Siem Reap have the borders with Vietnam, Thailand and Laos, many counterfeits are easily transported to Cambodia by land.

The purpose of this workshop was to provide guidance for the officers so they are aware of the situation of the counterfeits trade in Cambodia and to be able to distinguish between the genuine and fake products. S&O has attended the workshop and represented 6 well-known brands regarding fashion and cosmetic products. This training is a good chance for S&O to discuss and strengthen the relationship with the Customs departments to prevent the overflow of clients’ counterfeits into Cambodia.
